friday finds {currently craving}

June 1, 2012 - Leave a Response

It’s getting hot down south, and by hot, I mean you walk out of the door and feel like you immediately need to get to the nearest air-conditioned building! Summertime down here calls for casual, cool and carefree looks. My go to is loose-fitting dresses and I am in the market for a few new ones. Here are several looks I’m currently craving!

stripe and neon, green dots, red dots, blue stripes, bow striped maxi

flat sandals

Lately I have been all about the flat sandal! They are comfortable, casual, but can also be easily dressed up. Not to mention perfect for this hot summer weather! I love this Rachel Zoe pair, but how great is the look for less?

thrown over

May 29, 2012 - One Response

A girlfriend and I recently went to dinner and she had on an un-buttoned basic chambray shirt over her maxi dress, I loved the idea! I recently wore a sheer lace top with my chambray top thrown over. Such an easy and care free look. {side note: after taking these pictures I realized this entire outfit, and necklace, is from forever21!}

sale shopping success

May 25, 2012 - One Response
As mentioned here, I plan on indulging in a little retail therapy this Memorial Day weekend. I am off to the outlet malls and now is typically a good time to hit them when the stores are offering additional sales, on top of the already low prices. Here are my tips for outlet mall success!
Really think about an item before you jump quickly to purchase. I typically ask myself “what three ways can I wear this piece?” If I can’t think of three ways, I generally don’t purchase. Sometimes an extremely low price can be tempting to take an item home, but if you don’t wear it or use it, you wasted your money.

Really trendy off-season items are another one to think about before you purchase. Will neon sweaters be in style next winter? Just because that cashmere neon sweater is $30, doesn’t mean you will ever wear it.

Classic silhouettes in classic colors. A little black dress, a camel winter coat, nude pumps. These items I generally don’t have to spend much time thinking, if they are classic enough to wear for a few seasons and the price is right, I typically buy.

I know this weekend is going to be a hot one, however it won’t stop me from looking at winter items on sale. My favorite leather jacket came from a Saks off Fifth outlet, purchased in July! The regular price was $500, I only paid $90, in these instances it pays to shop off-season. {side note: to be prepared for upcoming seasons I always take a look at the most recent fashion weeks, to get inspired for upcoming trends and styles}.

You can’t typically order from an outlet and some items are discontinued, some are out of season and some a bit irregular. Which means you may NEVER find it again. If you find yourself seriously contemplating a purchase, keep in mind if you leave it at the store, it probably won’t be there when you go back. Check the stores return policy, sometimes its worth it to make the purchase and sleep on it, if not you will be kicking yourself when it’s not there the next day {I speak from experience}.

I haven’t been this excited for a long weekend in a while. I am getting away from it all, with plans for shopping, long dinners and of course a little pool time. Here is my ideal wear for this Memorial Day weekend! Basic tees and tanks and a little flirty skirt!

the summer pant

May 22, 2012 - 2 Responses

It gets so hot down South during the summer, the last thing I want to do is put on a fitted pair of pants, or even jeans for that matter. I came across these great pants recently and have been on the hunt for something similar. They are loose-fitting and cropped. Also, perfect for an afternoon of running errands or dressed up for a client meeting. How cute are the less expensive version I came across? I love all the colors and the linen fabric!

party puffs

May 21, 2012 - Leave a Response

I recently hosted my sisters bachelorette party and had these little party puffs throughout the beach condo. And I have to say I don’t think I will ever throw a party again without them. They instantly add color in such a fun way, and make great backdrops for photos!  I purchased mine {here}, however supposedly they are fairly easy to make {click through the first photo below for a DIY}. And what’s great if you make your own, you have an endless amount of color options, when it comes to tissue paper. {If you do purchase, they can be used again, as long as you carefully take them down.}

mid-length

May 16, 2012 - 2 Responses

I came across this skirt and was a little hesitant at first because of the length. I ended up purchasing thinking it would be great for work, however I have found myself wearing it all over.  I recently came to the realization it may be the most versatile piece I have bought in a while. It can easily go from Sunday brunch to client meetings, and works well with heels and flats. Not to mention the color is perfect to mix with the brights of summer. The necklace is a new addition, I absolutely love the color and shape of the stone.

glass with a stache

May 15, 2012 - One Response

My mom came across a very clever idea for my sisters bachelorette party. Given the theme was fiesta {for Cinco de Mayo} it fit perfectly into the weekends festivities. They were also very easy to make! I free-handed the mustaches out of black felt and my mom attached a clip on earring back, to the back of the stache. And the bottom was chalkboard paint, just another way to identify your glass.

Throwing a party? These are the perfect conversation starters, and favor. I had all the girls take theirs home.
