festive fringe

tissue paper {make sure to include a metallic}, string, cutting mat, scissors, glue gun
1. stack all the tissue, one color at a time, on top of each other and begin to cut strips, mine were about a 1/2 inch wide
2. take each row of cut tissue and hang evenly over a chopstick
3. take the center of the tissue {at the top of the chopstick} and begin to twist over your string, be sure to not tear the tissue paper
4. use a drop of hot glue to ensure your twist are secure on the string

rug love

Rugs are much harder to pick out than one would think. I have been looking for a new one for months {who knew it would take so long}! In the past I have chosen rugs that are neutral and bland, with little or no pattern {well expect for this one}. I have been on the hunt for something a little more playful and Urban Outfitters had just the thing. Polka Dots!  I went with the navy, and it looks perfect in my kitchen.

October has been a whirlwind of a month and I still have a few more busy days ahead. From weddings and celebrations to festivals and updates around the house. I can certainly say I am looking forward to a little down time come November.

{a new little addition to keep things organized}

{yep, it’s still hot here, wearing the booties in hope of cooler temps.}

{the cutest little owl, it was $7, I couldn’t pass it up}

a touch of chevron

As I mentioned last week {here}, I am slowly updating things around my apartment, while I save for the bigger things {like a new dresser}. I came across these precious frames from Z Gallerie and had to pick one up, lets face it, I can never pass up a good chevron print.

golden touch

Lately I have been daydreaming about changing some things around my house {well it’s not really a house, just a small apartment, but I call it home}. It has been over 2 years since I moved in and I am ready for some changes. I have been picking up odds and ends to make small additions and have been eying anything with gold accents. I came across these two vases on a recent trip to Target and Z Gallerie and absolutely love the golden touch.

wall of frames

I finally conquered the frame wall, a project that has forever intimidated me, and I can’t lie, I am quite happy with the way it turned out! A nice mix of art and memories and even space to add a few more!

A few things I learned along the way:

  • use the floor to layout all your frames first
  • start with a large frame right in the middle and work outwards, it worked best for me
  • start with several matching frames and add in a few with texture {all frames shown from Target}
  • use varying mat sizes to enhance the depth
  • having a second set of eyes really helps {thanks Mom}
  • hang the frames empty then work in the art and photos
  • use a mix of photos and art, those sunset photos you thought you would never frame, would look great!
