spring

feeling cold, thinking warm

My first job {and my favorite}, was at a high-end resort wear boutique. I started when I was 16 and continued to work there on college breaks. January was always my favorite month, when shipment after shipment of beautiful spring and summer pieces would arrive. While majority of the country is absolutely freezing this time of year, it was always fun to get lost in the new arrivals.

Working there I learned that January and February are the best months to shop for swimwear, sizes are fully stocked and the motivation that comes from buying a new swimsuit is wonderful! I have never been one to reach for the one piece, but I absolutely love these new arrivals from J.Crew.

ready to wear {Spring 2013}

Every time fashion week rolls around, I find myself collecting inspiration for the seasons to come. For Spring 2013, it’s all about metallics, the flowing frocks, the light mentions of leather and pastels. Also crop tops everywhere, the models pull it off nicely, but not so sure that will be my look, come spring! I consistently check wwd.com for the latest show updates, and when I can, I livestream a show or two. Here are the looks I am loving so far. Follow me on pinterest {here} for daily updates of my Spring 2013 picks!

girl on a budget

A reader recently asked me what to wear to a late May wedding, without spending too much money.  I sent on some links, and while searching I was extremely impressed with Piperlime’s “Girl on Budget” section. They have done a really great job with selection and pricing {not to mention free shipping and returns}. I also love that everything is under $100 in that section. There is nothing worse than seeing a dress you love only to find out its out of your price range.  Here are my May dress picks, for the Girl on a Budget!

their way & the save way {flip-flops}

I absolutely love these flip-flops, they are perfect for the beach and summer outings {and much better then the rubber kind}. But why would you spend $49.50, when you can spend $14.94? And to be honest I have tried on both and cannot tell the difference!

{I also featured these here, as a top pick for the spring and summer}

the straw debate…

Every year around this time I feel like I have the battle of the straw bag. Do I want one? It’s too big? It’s too small? I don’t want to ruin it if it gets wet! But, wait it won’t fit a large beach towel. I can’t squeeze in my suitcase and need it to be large enough for my carry on! The strap is too short. These are constant things that I come across when having the great straw debate. I think I may have found one that covers all the bases. Structured enough for a carry on, straps long enough to lug through an airport, short straw straps for the beach and large enough for beach towels and magazines. And hey when I get back from the beach it will be a great summer tote, once the sand is cleaned out of course. So here it is ladies, I think I found a winner! Oh wait, I totally forgot to mention its only $29.95.

cupcake martini

I spent this past weekend in St. Louis at a wedding shower for my sister and her fiancé. His mom and aunts made these precious cupcakes. Absolutely picture {pinterest} perfect! The cupcakes were baked in the martini glasses {she used gluten-free mix cake mix},  and traditional icing {with food color added} was melted and poured on {hence the smoothness}. Jordan almonds and mini M&M’s were added on top for decoration. Can’t forget the sugared rim as well! How cute are these? They would be perfect for the upcoming easter weekend as well.

short story

With the days getting warmer and the sunshine lasting longer, I see myself getting lots of weekend wear out of colorful patterned shorts. I know I will be wearing a few styles below, paired with a basic t and flat sandals!
