three days

I feel a little guilty not taking advantage of a three-day weekend and heading out-of-town, but I am very excited to stay around New Orleans and do a few things  that a normal two-day weekend just doesn’t allow for. The city is such an amazing place right now, with the Super Bowl buzz and the sights and sounds of carnival season, I can’t wait to get out and take advantage.

dark and dreary

The weather in New Orleans the last two weeks has been absolute dreary. From cold and raining, to warm and foggy, and now freezing with the chance of sleet. Needless to say I am counting down the days till we will see the sun again {they say Friday}. When the weather is like this I can’t help but reach for the darker items in my closet. Here are a few all black combinations I love, just add an umbrella and they would fit right in down here. 2013-01-15_23-03-04.44

oh Nate!

Nate Berkus has been a favorite of mine ever since his days of room makeovers on Oprah. In November’s Architectural Digest,  Nate’s own apartment was featured with several before and after photos of his renovations. I love his style and find lots of inspiration in his spaces. {Want to own some of Nate’s pieces? Check out his affordable line for Target!}

the updated flat

I absolutely loved these flats since the minute I laid eyes on them. Of course, out of my price range, but I recently spotted an almost exact style for much less. I love it when that happens!

chalkboards and burlap

My sister’s wedding came and went so quickly, and to be honest I’m not so sure where the time has gone since then. I waited to do this post for the professional pictures, but unfortunately the DIY aspect of the signs didn’t come out as I had hope. So my pictures will have to do. We wanted to create signs to put outside of the reception in order to direct guest, as well as, near the photobooth to add a little commentary. We started with a few pieces of per-cut wood, several store-bought black chalkboards and some burlap ribbon. They came out so well, I am already thinking of ways to use them again!

the mini brush

I carry around a full size blush brush in my handbag and needless to say I end up with blush and bronzer on just about everything. I came across these mini brushes with their own bag {to keep the blush and bronzer leftovers contained} and my problem has finally been solved. Only took 10 years. Here’s to a cleaner handbag!

first purchase

Can’t lie, the first time I wore a graphic sweater I felt like I looked like a child again. Wasn’t so sure about the look but I went with it, and now I kinda like it. My first purchase of 2013 arrived in the mail, another graphic sweater. This little guy will be perfect layered for the cold weather now and great to carry into the spring as well.
